Route 30 out by north Versailles/east Pittsburgh just gave out.. Seems like the soil around here has been shifting a lot lately

sweet Jesus. i thought it was maybe a 30' segment. that is just amazing, and scary.

given this situation, there could be hundreds of roads in SW PA that could suffer that fate. the city itself looks like its falling apart. i don't know what the hell the city is waiting for when a road starts to "dip" or crack.

The segment of Rt. 30 in not the city of Pittsburgh. It is the municipality of East Pittsburgh. Rt. 30 does not run through any part of the city proper. Rt. 30 starts in Wilkinsburg.

It runs from NY to San Francisco. It was the first cross country road, called the Lincoln Highway.

Yep, and PennDOT actually closed half the road a few days ago and the entire road before the landslide happened. No one was injured from what I am hearing. Seems like they did a good job, all things considered.

I know that but i believe it combines with I 376 one you hit pittsburgh. The Lincoln highway was replaced with interstates in the 40s and 50s. The city of Pittsburgh has nothing to do with maintenance of rt. 30.

that i know, as implied by "the city itself is falling apart", as if it were a comparison of situations.

It sounds like you're criticizing the city but it isn't clear about what. Honest question... what is it you think should be done differently?

We just had the rainiest month of spring ever in the history of western PA. It isn't surprising that there are a ton of land slides. The ground is waterlogged and going through freeze/thaw cycles. The record rainfall and temperatures around freezing have created perfect conditions for landslides. Dealing with those landslides is a governmental priority.

Yes. A very busy road fell onto a building where a bunch of people lived but nobody got hurt because they ran tests and took action at the right moment.
