Greetings,

I’ve always gotten great responses on here, so I figured I’d give this one a shot. I’m considering moving to the town of sewickley...what do you guys think of it? I know it’s suburban and little outside the city (l’d be working downtown) but I see some pretty cheap prices along the Ohio river blvd. Mainly for one or two bedroom apartments. Is this a relatively safe part of town? Anyone have any experience with a commute downtown? What’s the walkability like? I appreciate any insight on this part of town.

Sewickley is great, alot of really nice homes and it's overall considered a more well off area. I'm not familiar with the apts around there but we visit there often as we live right down the way in Ben Avon. It isnt too bad to the city from here and to Sewickley it's about 10 min for us so I'd guess about 20-30 to the city but not during rush hour. Alot of very high end homes tucked in around there, down by the blvd are some cheaper homes likely near the apts but very close the the main street with lots of shops and places to eat. I love it down that way. Anything specific you are looking for in the area?

Hard to go wrong with Sewickley. If you're buying a condo it will be a decent investment. If renting also a good choice if you're fine with the current rent, its not like its so trendy you will have to pay a lot more to stay.

I suppose I’m most concerned about the commute to downtown. At least for the first few months, I’ll have to rely on public transportation. I see there’s one bus line off my stop, so I’m hoping it’s fairly reliable.

I work from home so havent used the bus in forever but I know several down here that take it and it is reliable and often easier in the winter than driving into the city. I'd be really curious if anyone has take the bus from Sewickley during rush hour and how long that is. I'd image it's pretty long given the normal distance in traffic plus stops. Any reason for the focus on Sewickley? Might be able to find something cheaper with less commute somewhere like Bellevue, much more working class folks but a nice area and a walkable downtown area. Just not upscale like Sewickley, my mom lives in bellevue. That would cut the commute down alot.

If it wasn't so far from the East End, I would live in Sewickley in a minute. Love that town.

sewickley to downtown via bus is going to be quite the commute. Id suggest anything along the 65 corridor closer to the city. Ben Avon, Avalon, bellevue, Brighton heights.

As for safety, any of those are going to be fine. There isn't that much crime in this region overall. If you are not looking for trouble, you most likely won't find it. Just lock your car doors and don't leave valuables in plain site in your car ( even in sewickley).

Other than public transportation, what are your requirements for housing and neighborhood? Sewickley's nice, but it might not be your best option.

I’m kind of in between moving somewhere more centrally located (bloomfield, Shadyside, South side) or finding a close surrounding suburb that would be a bit further away but also cheaper (sewickley, Bellevue.) I mean everything is far more affordable than New York, where I’m moving from.

I guess the answer is I’m looking for a perfect balance of proximity to downtown, affordability, and a safe clean neighborhood.

Just FYI: I'm guessing anything cheap that says Sewickley is just a Sewickley address but not in Sewickley. Sewickley the village and Sewickley Heights are upscale. The "Sewickley" zip code (15143) is huge though.
