My spouse and I are in our late 30’s and are looking to move to the suburbs near Pittsburgh but we are not sure which counties to visit this August. The earliest we would move is next yr in the spring. We currently live in a house in Suffolk County, LI and would like to move to a more affordable location. We like the quietness of the suburbs and close proximity to stores but it’s very expensive living here. Average home price is 375k-550k. Some things we are looking for:

1. Suburban area (good for families)
2. good public schools (we have a 6 yr old with an IEP)
3. asian markets/restaurants nearby (spouse is taiwanese)
4. retirement communities nearby (retired mother in-law will be relocating as well)
5. avg. house price - < 275k

Im currently a graphic designer and my spouse is a medical credential specialist. We might rent a 2-3 bedroom apartment / townhouse before purchasing a home in the area.

I think it was discussed here before in length but I believe the most recommended school for a child with an IEP was either North hills or north Allegheny. I live in St Clair, it is a wonderful family suburban but I think the special education department is lagging behind the rest of the district. I know a few families that moved for that reason.

Our youngest just bought a house in Mr Lebo. Staying under $275K in that city proved to be impossible this Spring.
