Hi! Thinking of purchasing a lake house to use and rent out possible on water front. Want to be within 3 hours of Pittsburgh. Does anyone one have any favorites. Just starting to search and investigate areas. Treasure Lake seems to fit but don't know much about it. Any opinions on that area? would like to stay under $400,000. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you!

What do you like to do on the lake, if it is speed boat and jet skis or is it kyaking and fishing.

I have done a lot of work at Chautauqua and that would be my first choice, the rental market is strong. The best part of the entire lake is the river feeding it in Jamestown. It is my favorite place to kayak.

A LOT of folks go to Deep Creek. The icing on the cake is the home can be rented for ski season too.

Chautauqua and Deep Creek are great suggestions. Love both places a lot. Not sure if you can get into the Institute in Chautauqua for $400K or not these days? I haven't looked up real estate up there in over 10 years. Deep Creek is more year around I would say as they embrace the ski season as well as the lake summer season.

I am sure that is true. I only go to the institute for all the plays, music and so-on. It is quite active during season up there.
I think I might choose Deep Creek though. It has two strong seasons for rental use instead of one. Depends what you are looking for I guess.

On the other hand of all this, are you looking for a more remote quiet home? Deep Creek and Chautauqua are fairly busy lakes.
