Got back from a conference in New Orleans. Wow, that place is great as a vacation spot. Lots to do and see, and the food!!!. It really should be more popular than it is as a vacation spot.

Not much Pittsburgh can learn from New Orleans. Two very different types of places. New Orleans did keep its trolley system though. If Pittsburgh can further grow its high tech, that should help fuel Pittsburgh's restaurant scene. Really, New Orleans has at least one restaurant on every block, especially in the French quarter and that has more than one. New Orleans has a very strong character and identity. Katrina really hit New Orleans hard, but they are clawing their way back. Like to see the Strip pick up a chain restaurant, Gordon Biersch. I had a fantastic meal there in New Orleans.

I've had an interest in going, but haven't been sure how long would be best to go there for and how much there is outside of the French Quarter too has made me hesitant about going ahead.

The French Quarter will keep you busy, and they have other stuff outside of it to keep you busy too. I also took a swamp tour to see some alligators, took a diner cruise on the Mississippi. Still left a lot to do if I manage to go back.

Gordon Biersch is ok, but I don't think the Strip would be a good place for it. For the Strip to retain a lot of it's character, chains are not good. I would think the lower hill near the arena would be a great place for it, if the developments there ever get off the ground.

A swamp tour sounds pretty cool. I'll have to give going there a look, preferably in like November when it has finally cooled off.

It’s a phenomenal city, with lots of interesting neighborhoods; CBD, French Quarter, Marigny, Warehouse District, Uptown, Garden District, Algiers Point. Definitely worth checking out. Three days is enough for the city.

I'd be ok with it in downtown. It's just that the Strip is growing with High Tech and new apartments/condos so it needs close stuff to accommodate this population. It could also use a Jine Igle.

Lets not paint some overly bright picture of New Orleans. It is a VERY violent city to say the least.

The most violent cities:
1. St. Louis
2. Baltimore
3. Detroit
4. New Orleans
Blah, blah, blah 22. Pittsburgh

Eh, that's just hype. I walked around New Orleans at night unmolested. Violence like that is often between people who know each other.

Don't know if I would call statistics "hype". I have been to New Orleans a few times and enjoyed it, but I don't think you would want to make the wrong turn in that region, so it is smart to know there is a lot of murders there.
