The faster they fire the CEO of our region the better. Get rid of him! There is no reason they should have sold that downtown location. We need real leadership and the Y's should grow in these times. Pittsburgh is doing okay, so the Y's should be doing okay. They need to fire all the top brass and get new blood in there. Giving up that downtown location should have told them all they need to hear!

Greater Pittsburgh YMCA Financials
2017
Revenue: $39M
Expenses: $38M

2016
Revenue: $39.2M
Expenses: $38.6M

2015
Revenue: $38.5M
Expenses: $37.3M

What seems to be the problem? They have more revenue than expenses. How are they losing money?

having excess revenue doesn't mean that you have cash flow. they could have upcoming debt or lease escalation commitments.

You live in the burbs, right? Many suburbanites pay taxes that give them free or discounted memberships to their community centers with gyms and pools, etc. Other folks belong to dedicated gyms. The Y is a relic of a different time.

You must not leave Pittsburgh. The Y's in Florida for example are the best of the best. Huge indoor and outdoor pools and are amazing. It is like everyone belongs and it is very reasonable. Certainly not a relic in progressive areas.

This I can also confirm. The Baierl one is doing amazing and is awesome. Not sure why the city ones and close to the city are toast? It is what it is. Guess if you embrace poverty as much as the city, you will just lose things like a YMCA.

My family were members at the Penn Hills YMCA. Back in the 1980s, I attended nursery school there, my family swam at the pool, and my father, brother and I attended Indian Guides meetings there. Sad to see it go.
