I hope they keep both the Hyatt Regency and its connection to the terminal. Very handy for an arrival and departure.

Probably run shuttle buses, doubt they’ll keep that long of a connecting building.

Pittsburgh International is woefully underserved. Very limited options for getting directly to many cities.

And sadly very few international flights (despite the name)

Returned to Pittsburgh at 11 p.m. on a Saturday night, recently, and was shocked that there were no shopping or dining options open. Eerily like a ghost town. Especially jarring, when an hour earlier due to the the transfer flight we were in the Newark airport and it was like being in a trendy high energy cosmopolitan area at peak dining and shopping hour.

Three non-stops to Europe is pretty damn good for a metro area of our size sitting in our geography. It could certainly be a bit better, but we're not far off from where we were during hub days, and we're doing it without connecting passengers.

Newark is a connecting airport. There are flight banks leaving for around the world at all times of the day and night. Pittsburgh is an O&D airport, so when you arrive at 11pm, there may only be 3 more flights left to arrive on narrowbodies. Guess where those passengers *aren't* going to go when they get off that midnight flight? A restaurant.

Even Denver, United's fortress connecting hub, is dead by 11pm. Newark is a global airport.

Don't flights drop off sharply in number after 10 pm? Not really surprising, although it would be nice to have something open. But comparing to Newark airport is basically like comparing to NYC, so that doesn't surprise me either.

I have to laugh at this. Every non coastal airport without a ton of red eyes is going to be dead at 11pm, but shops open at 5am at PIT and are busy from 6am to 7pm. Most retailers don’t open until 8am and close at 9-10pm. 11pm is drunk at the bar time everywhere except major international airport hubs.

I wasn't actually comparing it to Newark. I just stated that it was especially jarring to deplane into a ghost town after the frenzy of Newark. My comment was that there was absolutely no dining or shopping available that was previously mentioned as something worth keeping.
