Imagine being this pathetic.

This is what happens when you give freebies. Now the airport authority is suing to recover the public pork that was shelled out. Spending public money to artificially boost the number of flights at the airport is misuse of tax dollars. They created a fake market for flight demand that will never sustain itself on its own one the money dries up.

I fly from Oakland Ca, to Pittsburgh once a year. Oakland is much smaller but also 10 minutes away from me. When I get to Pittsburgh, I get out of the plane call my sister to pick me up, go to the restroom, walk to the tram, hit the baggage claim, and in a couple of minutes, the carousel starts working. I then walk outside and wait.

I fly home to Oakland, get off the plane go to the restroom, call my husband, walk to baggage and wait. And wait. And wait. And wait. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes for the baggage to arrive. This is unloading the plane and driving the cart a couple of hundred feet.

I’m not doing that anymore, he drove around the airport about 8 times.

And this isn’t a one off. It’s always that way in Oakland. And this time we weren’t the only flight coming in. It was crowded, so it took even longer.

You guys have it good.

No, this happens when you use an un-trusted source for flights.

On top of that, did the Paris flight start off with incentive dollars and has since stopped using them? On top of that...haven't the loads for the WOW and Condor flights been meeting or exceeding expectations? Also, isn't it true that these flights will pull passengers beyond the PGH metro?

I understand that yes, they are spending money for incentives. But unless you are a highly, highly coveted and large destination, you have to get creative and yes, spend money to bring these flights in. There's less airlines to choose from and their being somewhat selective on markets that arent in the top 10. We should be glad that the airport is, in fact, doing its job by getting flights.

I guess the money Raleigh spends to subsidize flights: ($1.6 million to their Delta-Paris route: $500K going to AA since 1994 for London service; $250K for San Francisco & Toronto respectively & plans to subsidize Seattle & San Diego’s routes soon, among others), makes for a nice airport experience or is it another fake market with fake demand making your praise of RDU fake news.

Just flew out to Europe a few weeks ago on that Condor flight and it was completely full. Wow on the way back appeared to be around 90% full with just a few empty seats

Where did the airport authority get permission to use gambling revenues that should be earmarked to help senior citizens and property tax relief? Doesn’t it seem a little shady that this one jet rep sits on the board?

I can at least admit when there’s sh*ty news as well as good news, this falls under the former Delta to end its nonstop flight to Paris after 10-year run | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Makes sense

Quote:
Robert Mann, president of R.W. Mann & Co., an airline industry consultant, said the biggest culprit in Delta dropping the flight may be the Wow service from Pittsburgh.

Travelers can get to Paris for less than $400 roundtrip on Wow compared to $1,400 or more to fly Delta, he said. “That’s tough to ignore. Admittedly, it’s a connection [on Wow] but for a lot of people a thousand bucks is a thousand bucks. I can’t argue with that,” he said.

“[Wow] is just undercutting the market so dramatically that it’s unattractive for a higher-cost carrier.”
Unless you’re a business traveler who’s traveling on someone else’s dime, or using miles, it’s hard to justify paying the premium for a legacy carrier...especially for families. I’m certainly not going to pay an extra $4000 for my family to fly on Delta.
