Hello all, I am in need of hair advice. I want to get extensions because the stylist I went to was all scissor happy and gave me a horrible bob! I am in tears how short my hair is. I suffer with hair loss, but the doctors are still trying to figure out where it's coming from. Also, these stylists want like $800 to do extensions. I can't afford that every 2 to 3 months. What's the safest hair extension type? And how do I find a stylist that will do it cheaper? Any recommendations? Someone you personally know? It can be Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. It doesn't matter where the salon or person is located, just as long as I get extensions for a cheaper price and the safest ones for my hair. Thank you so much! I am seriously crying how horrible I look! My face does not fit short hair and the stylist said she was only going to cut two inches off. My hair was down to the middle of my back. Two inches my butt!!! I have a damn bob! It's above my shoulders!

I am so sorry this happened to you. I had a very similar experience when I was in high school and I remember how incredibly upsetting it was. I can't really help you with what you are looking for. I have never trusted anyone with my hair since my own bad experience.

I just had to wait for it to grow out in my case. It took a really long time.

Have you considered maybe trying a wig?

Oh you poor thing. I understand how upsetting this must be for you.

I have no personal experience with using extensions, but I go to a salon whose co-owner ( who is my stylist for both color and cut) is also a rep for a brand of them and I believe an instructor, as well. I see her doing many heads and most look great and realistic. I do not know the price, but she is very kind and nice and I believe she would not hesitate to talk to you over the phone or even in person.

As an aside: If you are having a medical hair issue, have you thought about any adverse effects extensions may have on your hair? I am not saying there will be any but is that perhaps something you should ask your dermatologist or PCP? I am assuming there is some weight and an adhesive component to them and am wondering if they could reap further damage?

The shop is Union Style Studio. 4941 Library Rd, Bethel Park, PA 15102. (412) 426-9100 Lindsay is the stylist to whom I refer.

Good luck. Also, perhaps another stylist would be able to make corrections on the style you just received. I've in the past made the mistake of thinking I just had to live with some bad cuts, only to learn that some of them are very correctable in the right hands. ( I know you cannot get the hair length back, but possibly a different "cut" will be flattering as you grow back?
