The north side was a mess. I commuted a way to avoid the biggest hills and was shocked at how many cars were parked on the side of the road because they couldn't manage a hill like Ivory as it approaches Perrysville. Quite a few ere SUV's, must be bad tires and/or poor drivers.

Uhh, doesn't really affect the OP. He could do a nice, flat commute along the river if he lived somewhere in the lower North Side.

What about Carnegie? We spent a really great day there this past Sunday and met some great people at Apis (meadery and winery). Seemed like a good mix of younger and older crowd when we were there.

There are a couple live performance venues, theater company, friendly bars, good restaurants, an active library with live performances/classes/lectures and much, much lower rents than any of those neighborhoods in the city, where $1,000 is going to be tough for what you want. Not too bad a commute to Coraopolis (although 376 West can just be a parking lot in both directions for seemingly unknown reasons at off-peak hours!). And don't forget Insurrection Ale Works on nearby Heidelburg. Great products and great people.

if going mt Washington, stay as close to shiloh as possible. The bar scene actually gets fairly crowded certain nights of the week and weekends. There are 3-4 pretty popular/trendy places to hang out. south side and downtown are easily accessed and the commute for work would be pretty easy as well.

when is your lease up and what is your budget?

Lease is up in May and my budget is up to $1,200 although I'd prefer to be closer to $1,000. I haven't spent too much time up there so as it gets nicer out I'll have to start checking it out.

check out the summit, coughlins law, shiloh grill, redbeards, and bigham tavern. each has a bit different vibe. There are some more divey bars as well.

I have a brand new remodel 2 bedroom house coming up for rent in May in a great location of mt Washington, but it will be above your budget unfortunately.

The roads are never plowed. Imagine driving in Atlanta during a blizzard. Politicians don't do anything to improve the situation and the sheeple sit back and accept it. Do yourself a favor and live close to work.

Coraopolis / Moon Twp puts OP right back in the same situation they're trying to leave.

Why are people ignoring advice on the neighborhoods OP is curious about? What an unhelpful thread.
