Thanks, I'll be sure to tell him.
I'll make him read this entire forum. I feel like I already know Pittsburgh, from all the google street view I've been doing.

I believe they all worked until after 7pm, it had been a really long day, and all the people who went out to dinner were the ones who flew in that day, so obviously not locals. My husband will be sure not to go back there once he moves.
I mean, I understand why they went, since it was so close to the building.

If your husband is looking for somewhere to catch a meal right after work, Eleven is probably a better choice.

Me again!!

My husband is in Pittsburgh right now and walked around last night and this morning. I actually walked with him on google street view (but I "walk" faster) while he was physically walking. It was fun.

He doesn't want to stay in the Strip District. He's staying at the Renassiance on 6th so basically walked down to Market Square, Forbes, up Wood, along Liberty to the Pennsylvannian building, up 10th and back down Penn. Today he walked Fort D Blvd to Point State and back up Stanwix etc...

He's viewing apartments at The Encore on 7th and The Venue on Stanwix tomorrow and agrees that Stanwix seems a little grey and boring.

I wanted to ask what the deal is with The Clark Building at 717 Liberty, across from Wood. I know someone already wrote that you will get a mixture of people on Liberty, but my husband said it seemed as though there may be a shelter nearby 717 Liberty, and they had all been kicked out after breakfast and were literally sitting outside that building. Is it always like that?

Tonight I'm going to send him to all the apartment buildings on Penn, so see how the street looks to him at night, although with it being a holiday it may be busier than normal.

The Clark Building itself is fine. It's one of the more affordable no-frills apartment buildings downtown, but it's still market rate, not a low income crowd. There are a lot of shady characters who wait for buses at the stops outside of it however, and the jewelers on the ground floor - because some offer "cash for gold" - attract some of "the element."

Right across from the Clark Midtown Towers is a low income/SRO building, but it's currently vacant, being rehabilitated after a bad fire last year.

Thanks Eschaton. I really appreciate the input you've given.

So I misheard my husband this morning. He didn't say he didn't want the Strip. He said he wasn't walking there until later, and he actually really liked it. He felt more comfortable there then downtown. He didn't bother doing Liberty because I told him you said it was a "car sewer", so he walked up Penn, then zigzagged back through Smallman, Railroad, Waterfront.

If you have any other input on the Strip, we would both appreciate it. I'm calling The Yards, Lot 24 and the Edge tomorrow - based on the fact that they have balconies. I'm also calling 1627Penn, purely because of the location (16th/17th) and it's the only available apartment building on Penn right now, but no balconies. Anything north of the Yards is probably too far a walk. He estimated from Yards to Seagate about 20 minutes.

Can you tell me what the huge long thin building is between Smallman and Waterfront, and David Mc Bridge/16th and 21st? Is it just a huge space to rent out for art galleries etc?

Thanks so much!

I am guessing this is the building you are talking about.
