Why do people go after Conner? He is doing very well so far. Nothing wrong with being able to catch a ball as another weapon. We are hurting, but we won last week. If we can string a few together we could be leading this crappy division and who knows after that? Remember we have home field even when we travel. That doesn't hurt.

He’s not doing well so far. He’s terrible, especially for a starting RB. https://www.espn.com/nfl/stats/playe...Yards/dir/desc

He’s no weapon. Most every RB can catch a ball, and he’s not even in the top 25 in all purpose yards. https://www.footballdb.com/stats/stats.html?mode=A

We certainly don’t have home field even when we travel, but how are you coming up with this idea? Because San Diego?

He is no franchise back and I really dont think he will ever be. I think we can win with him though, still better than many other backs. I say he is well above average RB receiving but below on rushing. I mean under 3 yards per carry is just sad.

It’s easy to think that because he’s terrible. Teams will simply start looking to cover him because they know he can’t run the ball, and the dinking and dunking pass plays will go away.

On the bright side, we play some really bad teams for much of our remaining schedule.

Leveon Bell Career Rushing/Receiving Stats
4.3 yards per carry
7 rushing touchdowns per year average
83.5 rushing yards per game average
8.3 yards per reception
42.2 receiving yards per game
1.4 receiving touchdowns per year average

James Conner Career Rushing/Receiving Stats
4.2 yards per carry
9 rushing touchdowns per year average
57 rushing yards per game average
9.0 yards per reception
38.4 receiving yards per game
1.5 receiving touchdowns per year average

The only glaring differences here are that Conner rushes for less yards per game and scores more touchdowns than Bell. Also, Conner's yards per reception are higher and I still believe he is a better receiver than Bell.

Those pesky statistics make me ask the question again. Why people gang up on Conner? If he was fumbling all the time I get it, but he is doing okay.

I Don't think Conner is horrible but I dont think you can compare him to Bell. Conner has been around basically for 2 seasons so those stats are a combination of 2 years. Which is the real Conner? An above average back like last year or a below average back like this year so far? Last year Conner had just under 1500 total yards and this year at the current pace will hit 1200.

Bell consistently has performed for 5 years, his top season was almost 2200 total yards and regularly was just under 2000 total yards.

Except you’re leaving out total yards and you’re basing it on Conner’s very short career. He’ getting worse, not better, and he’s often injured.

He’s only doing okay in the minds of those that like him. He can’t stay healthy, he’s regressing instead of getting better, his total yards are lousy, and nobody would be in line to want him on their team as a starting back.

He’s a Pitt alum with a great college career and great story to get where he is. Beyond that he’s nothing special.
