Have you ever grocery shopped at Target? It is a full-service grocery store that's clean. What more could you want? The strip is adjacent for specialty items. It's perfect for downtown if Giant Eagle isn't willing to step up, and apparently they're not or haven't been.

I'm very supportive of a Downtown Target. Instead of wastefully driving once per week to stock up at the East Liberty Target I could walk over to a Downtown Target after work a few days per week, pick up a few items, and bring them home with me. I think between Downtown workers, Point Park University students, Downtown(ish) residents, and those just passing through via transit, there would be an ample supply of customers.

I agree with you 100% and also want to add hotel guests to your list. I've stopped in urban Targets near where I'm staying in Boston, Cambridge, and Chicago to buy anything from sunscreen to an umbrella or windbreaker or other things I needed but didn't pack or didn't want to pack.

I think Target is a good fit for downtown. Something is needed.

As for TicToc, last I heard was some conversation about the city owned store fronts that are along Smithfield under Mellon Square.
talk about eye of the beholder! they are there to make money. they can overstock the wine to look chic, and give you a pittance of produce selection - to me, that doesnt make it classy. that is a stupid store.

Target is a "go to" store for everything from housewares and clothing to food and cosmetics/pharmaceuticals. Same thing here when I travel: It's a one stop shop, so much nicer than any Walmart. I also think they could pull students from Oakland as it is closer than East Liberty, I think. Plus light rail folks from Beechview/Dormont/Overbrook/Castle Shannon.

Well I am not sure what the poster meant by classier then if its not selling higher end products at higher end prices is what defines a grocery store as classy. I am not a fan of that store, but maybe what they meant was an Aldi where the cashiers wear white gloves.

I think its a good idea... Jobs for people to access with one bus from anywhere in the city. Pittsburgh definitely needs something down there.
