Hello. I'm looking for inexpensive options/ideas around the city for hosting a 40th birthday party. A place where people can bring their own food, covered dishes, beer, put up decorations. That kind of thing. Looking to spend like $200-300. Other than VFW or fire halls (??) can anyone think of any other locations? Thank you in advance everyone. This will take place in February so outdoors isn't an option.

Local fire hall. I know you said no, but you are ending up there. Enjoy.

One of the facilities at North Park?
https://alleghenycounty.us/parks/nor...k/rentals.aspx

You could rent the lodge, the rose barn, the second floor of the boathouse, the second floor of the skating rink (that might be cool - have the party upstairs, and have it ending when a public skating session is scheduled to begin so that your guests who may want to skate afterwards can do so together).

All of these facilities are within your budget.

There is also a banquet room at the Schenley Park Skating Rink. See https://pittsburghpa.gov/schenley/rink

A church might be open to such a designation.

I’ve attended events at every venue you listed except for the boathouse. The skating rink is nice, especially if you and your guests like to ice skate.

My inlaws hold events here. They are cheap so i know the pricing will be good.

Had my 50th there, great venue. Any older and you'll have a tough time getting up the stairs. True story: there was some plaster on the floor and a chunk of the ceiling missing when we got there, the park tried to charge us for damage. I explained that 20 years ago it was a possibility, but now we're too old to jump that high. The county policeman that opened the place for us confirmed that we were indeed "old". Case dismissed.
