So I was curious if anyone can recommend some good healthy dining? At my annual checkup I was informed I need to start watching my cholesterol which kinda surprised me. I eat red meat maybe 2 times a year, mostly chicken, and compared to most people I know I eat a good amount of veggies. My weight hasn't changed in like 4 years, down maybe 10lbs, so thought I was doing ok. Thinking it was mainly due to my love of cheese and other high saturated fat items (AKA Sweets!).

We don't eat out super often so I don't mind where the place is or the $ (not crazy) so would love to hear some places that offer good, healthier options.

Beechview has a new healthy meal kit delivery service called "Chip and Kale". You might want to check them out. I believe their offerings are all vegan, but even though I'm a carnivore I'll eat vegan sometimes to get a healthy meal in.

Thanks, I'll take a look and might get some ideas. Really though at home it is not an issue, we love to cook and have already easily adapted our normal cooking which isn't hard you just need to think about it. I'm with you, carnivore but also enjoy vegan dishes. My daughter really doesn't love meat outside a few chicken items so we often eat veganish when she is home. My son is opposite, for his birthday we got him an at home dry age beef kit. He has 4 delicious looking steaks dry aging in my 2nd fridge that I will only take a little bite to test.

Eschaton is going to be a valuable resource for you here. I believe he and his family are all vegetarians (vegans?) and dine out a lot, so they probably know all the best healthy local restaurants.

I think many restaurants could be considered healthy, depending on what you order. Like, you could go to Square Cafe and order the Tot Mess or Nutella crepes and be unhealthy, or you could get the beet salad with grilled chicken, no cheese and dressing on the side and feel pretty good about things.

Just because I'm a vegan doesn't mean that I always eat healthy. Though I've actually lost around 25 pounds in the last six months or so. More concentrating on eating less at home than when dining out though.

Apteka is by far the best vegan restaurant in the city, and is fairly healthy stuff considering it's a take on Polish food. I quite like B52 as well.

Very true, vegan does not automatically mean healthy! I miss cheese so took a look at the vegan cheese, it was pretty much pure saturated fat and no better. I'll look those 2 up.

Yeah. I'll co-sign his recommendation of Apteka. Friends of mine have raved about the place albeit I have yet to partake.

Very true but often those healthy options from traditional restaurants are an after thought. I can make basic things myself, looking for places that their main dishes are healthier and tasty.

One of my favorite places is East End Food Coop's hot/cold bar, salads, soups and some really amazing hot stuff. You have to shlep your plate through the store to the checkout and eating area though. Of course Onion Maiden is amazing even with the wait. There's also several Indian places, though avoid the creamier dishes. There's Mintt, Cafe Dehli and a place I recently discovered hidden in the hills of Monroeville called Udipi.
