To your first point I agree. That’s why I posted the article. A lot of folks are trying to jump start the IT scene in Pittsburgh. We need the jobs, period. And the Allegheny Conference head acknowledged how hard it is to attract and retain talent here.

And to your second point I also agree. The excuse machine is starting to churn. I expect it to be spitting out a lot over the next year or so. My prediction is nobody is going to be happy with the estimates even if they show stability. And the reason for that is because there is probably a lot of growth and regeneration going on in south hills, west end and north side neighborhoods. It won’t fit the narrative that the east end is the only growth area of the city. I saw the responses to the estimates and people weren’t happy. They were even questioning the census data used by the pitt professor. When it doesn’t fit narratives even when it is good news people still dismiss it. Look at the population stability numbers at the beginning of 2010s. More people were coming and staying but the big bad gas industry doesn’t fit narratives.

Or the estimates are off a good bit and the decline is a lot more than people expect.

Either of those scenarios are likely to happen and neither will result in happy posters on this sub forum.

I'm just confused why a city resident would consistently be rooting for the city's demise on here in so many threads.

I moved to Pittsburgh a decade ago from Candyland...errrr...Northern Virginia. My life overall has improved immensely due to my move up here, and as a result I love seeing the city improving. I don't wish harm to befall it. What good comes from rooting for a city to fail?

If anything I hope cities like Phoenix and Las Vegas start to fail because if they keep growing gangbusters they'll run out of water in a few decades and will be whining for a Federal bailout to tap more water from somewhere.

Simply to bring others down around them. Most forums have a few that just post negative crap all day every day. Nothing better to do as they are just miserable people. All negative all the time.

I have not been negative. Everything I have posted is usually backed with facts and figures. If I give an opinion I have not problem acknowledging it. It’s like both of you are yelling at clouds and missing the point.

GG we need to etch “better things aren’t possible” on your tombstone. I have never seen a more contrary bear post.
