Meh. I really have no interest in "gentrifying" the neighborhood. The neighborhood is fine as it is for our preferences. We walk down Forsythe Street and then up California into Brighton Heights to get coffee from an independent coffeeshop. We can walk to Kuhn's (albeit we prefer ALDI). We're dying to walk over and pick up a pie from Cerasoli's to try them out.

So far the only exterior "improvements" we have made are cleaning up two full bags of leaves a full bag of litter from the front of the home and lubricated squeaky storm door hinges. Coming soon will be a new mailbox and patched concrete steps. The home needs some love but isn't hopeless.

I will say that if nobody does anything with PPS Horace Mann until it's "too far gone to save" then that would be tragic because that handsome old brick building would just be replaced with more of that God-awful new construction we see all over the East End.

Thanks!
Cerasoli's deep dish is good, maybe a little too much cheese but otherwise really tasty. Definitely shop at Friday's if you are an omnivore, it gets crazy busy but it's worth it. Oh, I live nearby, if you ever need a hand with something DM me.

I was talking about the improvements you talk about in your second paragraph, not like.. fancy shops or something like that. Extremely basic home maintenance has disproportionate returns for neighborhoods being good places to live.

since we were recently talking about this, figured someone might be interested in reading the RFP on Horace Mann school.

Fantastic! Thanks for sharing! I’m 100% supportive of this project and will attend the public hearing (whenever it is) to voice that support. Nice to see the neighborhood group and city council are also on-board. I couldn’t have possibly hoped for a better outcome for Horace Mann!

its not a done deal by a long shot. They will need to secure significant grant money for it to happen which is always an outlier in these situations. Hopefully it can go forward though.
