Pretty sad and disgusting stuff. Honestly though, not too surprising. I blame the city govt. The memorial should have been moved years ago. You cannot have something like that in a neighborhood full of drunk Marxist hipsters and expect them to act respectful. Move it out of the city to a neighborhood where educated people respect what it symbolizes. Lawrenceville is unworthy of it.

No surprise. Haters gonna hate, and don’t have the nerve to try anything like that when anyone is there to stop them.

the link doesn't work at this time. i suspect people have called it a day, returned home, got online to check email and the news and such, and now are linking to the story en masse.

i saw the story on the television news.....did you see the hammer and sickle? I mean, the 4 year old two doors down could have spray painted that. karl is turning in his moldy grave.

Whoever did it likely has a 4 year old mentality which could explain that.

It’s becoming an embarrassment over here in Lawrenceville. If it was a progressive they just added more air pollution with the spray can too.

Quite sensitive, also. I’d wager someone’s feelings were hurt by it and want it removed

i think I understand their motivation. at that age (assuming this is a 20s person), EVERYONE thinks they are entitled, and invulnerable, and "right" about everything, and perhaps a little naive that the way things are are totally anti-human and should be corrected, if force by necessary.

but a person's choice of actions depend on their environment, and what they think they can get away with. for some guy living in the suburbs, chances are it wouldnt occur to them to be a rabid political activist. but for the same person living in a place like the east end, which is very millenial - friendly and rather liberal-minded, well, that might be the perfect storm for a person who believes in communism to make a statement with vandalism.

im not saying this is just, nor do I agree with it, but in response to people who say "why would someone do this?!?", I get why.

but in response to some comments above - it isnt like Lawrenceville is crawling with vandals - it is likely a neighborhood where you see fringe people, but there ARE a lot of old-timers still, and even young people that would not agree with defaming a memorial to those who were forced to go into war.

no one really thinks about the common guy who was given a gun and forced to go into war, and didnt return - life done, in that way? so unfair. so, sure, throw red paint on their memorial to honor some prisoners you know nothing about except they were Maoists.

Entitlement is more prevalent than ever.

I’m not going to assume it’s a 20’s some year old. There’s haters of all ages that could’ve done it.
