So brought up in another thread, what are some of the murals around town everyone enjoys?

I really enjoy them, I've always loved old marketing art especially the old Mail Pouch barns. I wish more stuck around on the older buildings but enjoy the new. I think my fav is Roberto Clemente mural but its more since he was someone my dad always loved.

Which one? There are two and I love both. One is highly visible from I 579 N on the Northside. The other is just before the Penn Butler split in Lawrenceville. It is on the former fire station turned museum.

The museum, I do like the other I just like the coloring better on the museum. I see it anytime I am free to goto restaurant depot with my wife. There are a few murals on that stretch. There should be a map of all. I see so many but forget where.

My favorite mural not painted by my brother.......is on Butler street in Lawrenceville.

This one is titled Yesterday's Tomorrow. This was always one of my favorites. Our past vision of the future is starting to become reality. Midtown Manhattan is turning into the Jetsons with all the billionaire row and Hudson Yard supertalls.

That first one is so detailed, I'm not sure I'd realize it was a mural driving by. I actually like the 2nd better, I like some abstract.

Long gone but this one stood out, while it lasted (the building was demolished).

This mural was painted by a artist named Judy Penzer. The mural was painted on the building owned by her brother and financier Richard Penzer. They were from NYC and very wealthy. Judy also painted a famous mural in the east end titled "The Bride" on Penn Avenue in Garfield.

Richard Penzer was heavily involved in former Mayor Tom Murphy's Fifth and Forbes redevelopment plan. The city needed the Fifth and Wood properties for "modern" retail. After lengthy negotiation and guidance from his Rabbi Penzer sold the property. The site would later become the new location for Horne's Department Store. During construction Horne's parent company merged and the new store opened as the short lived Lazarus-Macy's department store. Later on Federated merged with May Department stores causing its closure and later redevelopment into office / residential.

I attended Pittsburgh PPS and we were heavily exposed to the arts. Judy taught one of my art classes in middle school. She was a pretty lady and very sharp. 80's sharp!

Sadly artist Judy Penzer died in the TWA flight 800 crash out of NYC bound for Paris. The crash occurred in 1996 just days before the Summer Olympics in Atlanta GA. I will never forget her and thought about her while in Paris last year.

This mural was lost to Pittsburgh start up Duolingo's expansion plans. The office expansion required windows on the upper floors. Duolingo digitally recreated the mural for the interior of the new office space.
