What amusement park isn't cheesy? I thought Knotts Berry Farm wasn't so great, either.

If you are looking for good schools and a good place for kids, please reconsider Mt. Oliver and look elsewhere.

I actually love the aspects of Kennywood that I suspect Humanoid is calling "cheesy". Parts of it really feel like you are stepping back in time (e.g., the old wooden rollercoasters), which I think is a lot more unique than the modern rides you can get anywhere.

I would not consider living in Mt. Oliver. That area has a lot of crime lately and is very close to the Beltzhoover-Carrick area. While it is a separate boro in Allegheny County, it is served by the Pittsburgh Public School District, not exactly top of the list. Brentwood is not far from there and a step up, just don't mouth off to any policemen.

Well, thats how Pittsburgh feels in general. Anyhow, I'm not saying Kennywood is horrible, but there isn't too much there. Its let driving a Benz and then driving a Geo Metro. If you're use to going to Six flags, Dinseyland etc Kennywood is going to appear rather "cheesy" for a lack of a better word.

I couldn't stop laughing when I went on that haunted water ride. The stuff in it was purchased at the Halloween store (like 20 years ago) and the ride seemed as if it was made with cheap water-slide tubing.

I'd say it is more like comparing taking a ride in a 2008 Toyota versus a 1956 Chevy. The 2008 Toyota undoubtedly has better technology, but they are also everywhere. The ride in the Chevy, however, will be a unique treat.

But, of course, this is a matter of taste.

I'm sorry BrianTH, but you must work for the city of Pittsburgh exclusively to "keep up appearances" because I have never seen ANYONE (except Guylocke, who I happen to think is young and inexperienced, but is agood soul and respect his idealism.)defend Pittsburgh the way you do.

Who cares if Kennywood is cheesy? It's piece of nostalgia! That's cool in it's own right! If you defended it for what it really is, people would believe you more, but this it is obvious that you have another agenda other than loving Pittsburgh because you live here.

I mean, come on............... do you really think Pittsburgh is the Utopia you make it out to be?

Are you trying to sell a house? LOL

Yes, Kennywood is cheesy, always has been. But I had my first date at the school picnic at Kennywood, my niece from Florida loves riding the Turtle as the last ride before we leave, I watched my mother almost lose her dentures when she took me on the Jack Rabbit(how's that for a visual).

So what? Enjoy it or avoid it, it's that simple.

So let me get this straight: Guylocke is sweet but naive, and Brian is trying to snare unwary buyers for his house.

What about me? Don't I get a mention as a crazy Pittsburgh cheerleader who has some unlikely reason for liking to live here (other than, well, just simply liking to live here, which can't possibly be anyone's actual reason)? I'm sad, London. I thought I had made more of an impression on you than that.

I guess I'll have to make up my own wild attribution for my pro-Pittsburgh behavior. Let's see...

Since I come from the West and have traveled extensively, it can't be that I haven't been anywhere else like those fabulous sunbelt states. I'm a little too old to be young and naive. I have too many degrees to be a blue-collar worker who loves living with other people just like myself. Hmmmm....

I know!

I'm secretly working as an undercover agent for Luke Ravenstahl. He pays me by the post to say nice things about Pittsburgh on City-Data Forum. Pretty romantic and exciting, huh?

Honestly, some of you come off as if you are being paid by the city (Note, I'm not talking about you, I really haven't see you post much). Hiring people to post on forums is a marketing strategy that is done by businesses all the time. Having a government do it is not that outlandish. In fact it would be a pretty good idea, but if they are indeed doing it they should hire better people!
