This financial suffering could be mitigated if the federal government provided stipends amounting to a certain percentage of peoples' pay while stores and restaurants are closed during the crisis. That's how the first-world countries are doing it.

I guess we could keep passing more and more debt on to our children. Why not?

Where does the money come from? Where does the money come from to pay for the massive deficits are government entities are going to have to address?

Our kid's future. Gotta ride the wave I guess. We haven't had good leadership in the US since Eisenhower. He not only had a balanced budget, he had no wars AND build an incredible infrastructure we use very heavily to this day and beyond. Everyone after him was lousy really.

How are the other countries doing it? It seems like we were able to provide massive tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations in the blink of an eye a few years ago, but to help middle-class people, it suddenly becomes un-doable because it's expensive.

Some form of compensation for people who are suffering through no fault of their own would take the edge off and provide peace of mind. People would know that they will get through it and keeps money flowing in the economy until the crisis is over. Most major economists have been urging the Congress to do this for months. Right now people are angry at their local representatives for restrictions, when they should be mad at the federal government, which has botched the response from the beginning.

Perhaps because local representatives picked and chose who/what they deemed to be essential “because we say so”, while never losing a check themselves, and letting big businesses flourish while small businesses closed.

Precisely. The states were left to fend for themselves with no guidance from the federal government.

The governors were appointed to do the job they get paid for, and rather than also looking out for the small businesses, they enabled the larger ones...hence letting the small ones die and leaving the workers with out a job, “because we say so”.
