Baden is a medium-sized river borough located just north of Ambridge in southern Beaver County, and in the Ambridge Area School District.

Baden began as a Native American village along the river in the early 1800s, know then as Logstown. Early on, it was home to boat building yards, quarries, a lath mill, and a gristmill. In then became its own incorporated borough in 1858. It grew into more like a river town suburb with the growth of the mills in Ambridge as well as the railroad industry in nearby Conway. The borough is mostly residential today, consisting of a mix of post-war era street car suburb and older general residential homes. It is about 2.26 square miles. Its population grew and peaked at a little over 6,000 in 1960. It is down to a little under 4,000 today. While the borough is mostly residential, there are some businesses, including stores and fast-food restaurants located along Route 65.

There is still a portion of the borough's limit in the northeast, that is mostly undeveloped land. It looks as if the homes in Baden have stood the test of time well and it is definitely still a safe area to live in and a fine location. Most of the decline over the past 50 years is probably just the normal natural decline seen across much of western PA. With the decline of jobs on that side of the Ohio river and average quality of the Ambridge Area School District, there most likely won't be new homes built on open land or any kind or any kind of population surge anytime soon, but it will remain a safe, untroubled area to live in.

Thank you for this. Baden must indeed still be popular as most of the homes on the market there are "contingent".

Haven’t been to Baden in years but it’s far enough away from the riff-raff of Ambridge and Rochester to be desirable.

Sad because Ambridge has cool a little historic neighborhood.

Has Biden ever been to Baden?

Ambridge is still a neat place to visit, it’s just not a desirable place to live.

It would be fair to say Ambridge isn't one of the most desirable places to live in the Pittsburgh region, but it's fine. Baden is fine too, the houses overall seem nicer, but there isn't as much business.

I think people underestimate the subtle charm of certain areas around Pgh. if you tried to find it in other cities you would be either in a high end generic neighborhood or in a mid range suburban craphole. not that we don't have those , but for the most part you can get a great house with character for a good price, in a nice place. that's not the case in most cities, you will be getting either a generic place for a mid to high price or a dump for too much. appreciate what you got, ok?

Looks like that area is going to lose its Giant Eagle. Not in Baden exactly, but close. If a Giant Eagle can't make it there, that is saying something.

I think, more than anything else, it's saying there's a Walmart across the street...

A Walmart being around a mile away from a Giant Eagle isn’t limited to Baden.
