Someone might be able to give you better information on specific shelters, but if you go to Petfinder.com: Adopt a pet and help an animal shelter rescue a puppy or kitten., you can enter your zip code and other information about the animal you are looking to adopt (i.e. age, breed, size), and they give you results based on proximity to your zip code. As far as I know, all the dogs on there are rescue dogs, but it tells which shelter they're at, and you can research that particular shelter from there.

Animal Friends is a no-kill shelter in Pittsburgh, and I would definitely recommend checking them out:

Animal Friends is a beautiful shelter. They take wonderful care of their animals there; it almost makes you want to adopt from someplace else where the animals are more in need!

The Animal Rescue League and the Western PA Humane Society are two other options.

To find smaller rescues in the area, use Petfinder!

Oh, and I also want to recommend BREW, a beagle rescue.

BREW: Beagle Rescue, Education, and Welfare - Home

Pittsburgh is considered Mid West for their rescue. They will be at the Robinson Petco on May 17 and the Monroeville Petco May 25!

http://www.danecastle.com/everything...cuegroups.html

Please be open minded, some "older" dogs, not puppies, make the greatest pets.
"Sasha" a Border Collie Shepherd, was about 1 year old and house broken when we received her from Butler County Shepherd Rescue. About 6 years old now she make our family complete.

The only "small" problem, car sickness and a pure hatred for Dachshund's????

We found her on Petfinder.com: Adopt a pet and help an animal shelter rescue a puppy or kitten. It's a great place to look.

Our dog came from the animal rescue league... he's been a good mutt. they have tons of dogs there from many different breeds (there are lots of pitbulls and pit mixes... like most shelters in urban areas). i'd definately recommend it, it was a no hassle experience and i think it was like $75 or something close to that to adopt.
