Lately, I've been wanting to not use my car as much. Any areas where I can bike/scooter (when running errands alone once the baby is born) or walk a mile or so to some shops or bus? I love nature and want to experience that from time to time. Any bike trails running through suburbs?
There are many places, the #1 thing though is what is your budget? That will greatly drive areas of interest. Do you want suburbs or is city/urban ok too? Homes in general here are cheaper than out Philly area but many walkable areas w/ nature (or parks) also close or out in a more rural area w/ good business districts tend to still be more expensive even if not maybe Philly expensive.
OK - Penn Hills is NOT the area that you want to live in if you do not want to use your car. Penn Hills is not sidewalked and is nothing but steep hills with bad, narrow roads. You need to have a car to go anywhere. Also, Penn Hills really does not have a "downtown" area. It's just aged surburban sprawl.
Maybe Oakmont might be better? Excellent schools, thriving downtown area, walkable, etc.
We have friends and family that live in Penn Hills and my wife works there. One family member teaches in there as well. By no means is it walkable. I think the reason why people ask about Penn Hills is that there are lot of affordable housing options. Penn Hills is massive.
Grew up in Penn Hill decades and decades ago. Loved playing in the creeks. Lots of greenspace then and still today. The best kept secret as far as housing. You get the real deal mid century homes all affordable. Here's a great older home with lots of land. https://www.realtor.com/realestatean...5_M44855-87359
i must say, there seem to be some nice homes in Penn Hills - for CHEAP, like under $160k!
posting in this thread will bump the recently active thread and maybe help those people who have voiced interest in home buying.
i get daily emails w/ homes either for sale or soon to be for sale - i really am amazed at these seemingly decent, although small houses on leafy, suburban and (hopefeully) quiet streets.
