My senior dog (12 years old. 10lbs) bite me in the face after we had finished playing and I went to pick him up. Due to where he got me I had to go to urgent care and I was stupidly in a panic and upset that I told them honestly that I was playing with my dog and he snapped at me. They only cleaned up my wound and gave me steri stripes as his vaccines are up to date.

They had me fill out a dog bite report even though it’s my dog and I said I was playing with him. I can’t find anything online beside it’s all dogs biting other people and I’m freaking out that I was stupid and now my dog is going to be taken away or my apartment will tell me to remove him (if they are notified).

Any advice? He’s never bitten anyone else and this was out of character. Now I’m wishing I hadn’t gone to get it looked at he’s the love of my life and losing him would just crush me. I feel so stupid and I’m thinking about a million things that could happen and causing a panic. I just moved here and this was the last thing I needed. I did cal my dog vet because he has been acting strange like something is wrong with him lately. He’s almost 12 years old.

You don't have to panic. They won't come and take you dog. I believe the law is 3 bits then it becomes a serious matter. A first offense is not likely to cause any issues. Especially given the description of how it happened.

was the dog just playing and underestimated the strength of its bite? what kind of dog is it, by the way?

hope your wound is better and that you both are doing well.

welcome to pgh, by the way! we love dogs here...and cats. maybe people do in all cities.

He’s a Pomeranian and he really only has one front tooth which is what got me. I think he is having some arthritis issue and was in pain/I got a tender spot when I picked him up after playing and my face just happened to be what he got. I did schedule a vet appt for him just because he’s showing some other signs that aren’t normal for him and I want to make sure he’s okay because this was so out of character

I really had no idea I would have to fill anything out at the urgent care so that was shocking then my anxiety was thinking of all the worse cases and google was not my friend.

My wound is doing better and he seems to be okay too.
