New Eagle is a smaller (1.02 sq. mil.) borough in northeastern Washington County about 25 miles southeast of Pittsburgh along the Monongahela River, within the Ringgold School District , adjacent to the city of Monongahela, and Allegheny County, across the other side. Its population was estimated to 2.1 thousand as of the 2019 estimates.

New Eagle was first laid out in 1901 by local pioneer J. S. Markell in neighboring Carroll Township. 11 years later in 1912, it was incorporated as the borough of New Eagle, named after the Old Eagle coal mine nearby. Like much of this area, the town began to grow with the growth of the coal mining and steel industries nearby. Its population grew to a peak of 2,700 in 1960.

In the decades since, New Eagle has fluctuated between population growth and loss. It last saw a small growth in the 2000 Census with some newer riverfront homes being built and mixed in with the older industrial style town homes. The town seems to be mostly and extension of the neighboring city of Monongahela. It has sidewalks, but not really much of downtown business district. There are a few roadside businesses along its main drag on routes 88/837, along with a riverfront park and marina along the river. It is perhaps best known locally as the birthplace of NFL legend Tony Montana. Like much of this part of the metro, its future has been looking slightly dim due to jobs having left the general area. However, it still appears to be a nice, safe mostly working class town.
