i wonder if anyone here is old enough to have known the late 1960s - my understanding was then there was a lot of random violence, even incidents of attacks on fire departments that were sent on calls. there were domestic terrorist groups galore then.
Lol. It’s getting worse, and folks are enabling and defending criminals and the revolving door of justice continues to spin quickly.

Lots of cities would like a word, especially Pittsburghs sister city to the east, Philadelphia continues to have even worse skyrocketing crime. Why will it subside in 2 years or less, and please be specific?

we always think its the end of the world. gas spiked around 2002 and people were outraged. the steel industry died in the 1980s and people thought America was finished. AIDS was crazy at one time and it was believed it would infiltrate the blood supply.....

consider that thugs are shooting each other - thankfully reducing their own numbers. also, there is the age range of shooters - they eventually get older and priorities/ways of life changes. over the decades, there have been ebbs in crime surges just because of these two reasons.

i dont have raw data on it in front of me, but ive been on planet earth long enough to consider we might not be in a permanent Mad Max type of distopia yet. the current situation isnt pleasant, correct, but there are elections to be had, changes to be made...it takes time.

Nobody said it’s the end of the world. Violent crime is getting worse, not better, and it’ll continue to do so, but the blood supply and AIDS references are quite the strawman arguments.

For every thug that shoots another there’s more in line to take their places.

Again, nobody said anything about a Mad Max type of dystopia. What’s being said is that it’s getting worse and will continue to do so.

"According to the authors, the Fourth Turning is a Crisis. This is an era of destruction, often involving war or revolution, in which institutional life is destroyed and rebuilt in response to a perceived threat to the nation's survival"

this is happening in philly, in new york city - it's not specific to pittsburgh but we like to think we're immune from that stuff and obviously we're not

two years - try twenty years which is one quarter (fourth) of the 80 year generational cycle

"According to the theory, historical events are associated with recurring generational personas (archetypes). Each generational persona unleashes a new era (called a turning) lasting around 20–25 years"

Great to see Gainey acknowledge the problem. Recognizing it is the first step in fixing it.

Its only spring - its not even summer yet, and the Hill seems to be doing its best to imitate Kyiv.
