They wanna keep the band together because old times. Winning a championship is secondary to them.

I have no doubt that Malkin will be re-signed. They will need to clear some cap space so that means a defenseman will go. If they want to get rid of Zucker, they are going to have to give assets in return for someone taking on that cap hit. What a disappointment he's been when it comes to scoring.

This would have been the year to let Malkin and Letang go and use that cap space to sign more youthful players to rebuild the team around Sid. When they sign Letang, the ages of their centers will be 35, 36 and 37 at the start of the 2022-2023 season. That's a lot of wear on the tread. Looking back on the Carter deal, I'm not so crazy about it.

The roster composition is going to be nearly identical to last season. They must truly think that the absences of Jarry and DeSmith were the reasons they didn't go far in the playoffs last year.

I have to say it again - I'm not too impressed with Hextall.

Yikes is right. I assume (or I guess hope) that there is a trade lined up to move Zucker or Petterson out to clear up some space. This definitely means no significant free agent signings (I was hoping for Kadri but that was probably a pipe dream anyway) and as mentioned earlier, basically the same team as last, but a year older. I don't get it. Its probably still a playoff team, mostly because I don't think anyone else in the Metro got any better (and Isles are without Trotz now too). Kemper is rumored to be headed to Washington which would be hilarious if that didn't happen considering they basically have no goalies at the moment.

Madden reported Brian Burke went on the record saying they offered Malkin a 4 year deal, but Malkins “people” have denied it.

Gonna be real interesting to see how Letang feels if Malkin doesn’t sign and Letang said he took less money for the Pens to sign Malkin.

Double Yikes. Though it could be worse. They could’ve given him 6 years.

They gave out six year contracts like they were giving out candy on Halloween. Rust, Rakell and Letang. If nothing else, it's going to be interesting in the coming seasons.

I think they have just over 4 mill in cap space left. Unless they move a big contract or two, i.e. Zucker, Domoulin, Pettersson, they won't be very active in free agency today.

They won’t be active in the playoffs, either….but at least they’ll keep the streak alive
