Pittsburgh-area hospitals ramp up to give COVID-19 booster shots

https://www.post-gazette.com/busines...s/202108180152

"In a briefing on Wednesday, Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said the booster shots were needed because of “concerning evidence of waning vaccine effectiveness” shown in several studies, which might be affected by the rapid spread of the virus’ delta variant."

"Not everyone agrees with the CDC assessment, including Vincent Racaniello, professor of microbiology and immunology at Columbia University, who said the science doesn’t yet support the need for booster shots."

"Convincing people to get the booster shots won’t be easy, Mr. Racaniello said.
“I just think people are going to be tired of it,” he said."

the people of city-data pittsburgh will NEVER be tired of trusting the science!

they'll take three shots every year for ther rest of their lives if that's what the science says we should do to defeat covid

Allegheny County not yet planning proof of COVID-19 vaccination rules as cases keep rising

https://www.post-gazette.com/news/he...s/202108180117

"Allegheny County officials said they are not yet looking at implementing a rule, similar to the ones New York City and Philadelphia have implemented, to require proof of COVID-19 vaccination for use of restaurants, gyms and various other indoor spaces.

County Executive Rich Fitzgerald noted Wednesday that many organizations and businesses in the area are already requiring proof of vaccination on their own, like Stage AE, in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases.

“I think you’re going to see more and more of that ... but at this point, no, we’re not yet considering what New York City and Philadelphia are doing,” he said."

thank you, allegheny county - implementing a rule "to require proof of COVID-19 vaccination for use of restaurants, gyms and various other indoor spaces" would be a DISASTER for the city

on the other hand it will probably happen anyway because SCIENCE!

Gainey shares thoughts on UPMC, vaccines and COVID relief as he awaits mayoral election

https://www.publicsource.org/gainey-...-covid-relief/

"Gainey said Monday that “everyone should get vaccinated” against COVID-19. He said he would be interested in looking into vaccine rules recently enacted by New York City, which require anyone patronizing an indoor restaurant, bar or gym to show proof of vaccination. (Under state law, the city government cannot make this decision directly, but the county could.)"

“I want you to be vaccinated if you go in a restaurant, absolutely,” he said. “If what’s going on in New York is helping move society forward, absolutely that’s something that we’ll look at.”

Vaccines in the job description: Employers consider whether vaccine mandates are good business strategy

https://www.post-gazette.com/busines...s/202108180142

"Barrel and Flow is among a growing list of events and venues in Pittsburgh that have made vaccinations part of their business rules.

The Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown, Club Café in South Side, and Row House Cinema and Thunderbird Café and Music Hall in Lawrenceville are all planning to require proof of vaccination or a negative test result. In October, Stage AE in North Shore will only accept proof of vaccination. Heinz Field is requiring masks, while PPG Paints Arena is recommending those attending events there wear a face covering.

Now in 2021, with a vaccine involved, employers are asking themselves who they can afford to lose — the workers and customers they will alienate by requiring vaccinations or those they will turn away if they don’t?"

eventually you're gonna need a Certificate Of Vaccination ID to buy groceries, have a bank account, get a drivers license, ride the bus, see a doctor...

It certainly won’t stop at 3. Still huge amounts of $$$ to be made.

I find it extremely interesting that there’s been 100s of 1000’s of unvaccinated and untested folks coming through open borders, yet the biggest complaints are towards those that don’t feel comfortable getting the shot. Do folks really believe these folks aren’t bringing these “variants” in from other countries? There will be an excuse for boosters for a very long period of time if so many folks continue to infiltrate the country without being tested.

This is a national/global topic. Not sure why this is posted as a Pittsburgh thing.

Yeah right. Reject, refuse, educate. Pittsburgh eateries will close up left and right. Nobody is taking endless experimental vaccines just to dine at Eat N Park and appease Big Pharma's shareholders just because there's a .009% chance of dying from this virus. Nice try pharma.

It's ramping up across the country.

Every city has hospitals doing what UPMC is doing.

Don’t recall anyone saying it is. It’s information for Pittsburgh area folks that UPMC is ramping up efforts to provide a booster. Good info.
