It looks like the DEP is doing it's job in ensuring that radium and other radioactive componants are not used in the brine solutions for de-icing our roads, following the 2018 ruling. However, the legislature has a nice big loophole for conventional O&G extraction that allows the companies that produce the brine to self-certify the relative safety of their products versus the alternative, conventional treatments - yet none of these makers test for radioactive componants - radium is the most commonly found when tested for - the most harmful and longest lasting contaminants in the environment. All of that brine eventually makes its way to the ground water and river watersheds from which all of our drinking water is sourced. Contact your state reps to urge changes to the law to protect me, you, our kids and grandkids, not to mention all the pets and wildlife that get their water from the same sources we do.

Thanks for the heads up. Agree, that this is ridiculous. Other safer ways to treat the roads.

If you drive better in snow in RWD than FWD, you aren't driving correctly.

Cinders. We had a box of them on the porch when I was a kid. If you spread them on an icy sidewalk, you had no more trouble. Plus, at the end of winter, you could sweep them up and use them again next year.

They were really dirty though. They used them on the streets too.

Then for awhile they spread some kind of non-salt grit on the roads.

Cars got stuck and the neighbors would push them out.

Great news! The snow prediction has been upped to 8" or more.

If that comes to fruition I expect much complaining about road conditions. Maybe Big Ed will operate a plow truck after his public works ride a long.

Even the people who don`t need to go anywhere will cry like babies if their street isn`t cleared the minute the snow stops falling and some are actually trashing the new mayor before the snow begins. Good job. Right on cue.

Emergency vehicles do need to be able to get through, so they have a right to be concerned.
