It is, no meat at the norwin GE friday - and that is the showcase training store for all the up and comings. not one of the 'market district' dumps. and no chicken at the monroeville GE or norwin walmart sunday.

Its not a constant, by product or by store...but giant holes exist in our shelves. we have been able to get everything we want by playing store roulette. canned cat food has been pretty much non existent for the last year here, not that we want it, but you see the empty shelves when you grab the bag of iams for the furball.

Can't you just buy potatoes, cut them up and fry them?

I don't buy much packaged, frozen or canned food. The only shortage in fresh food I've encountered was Romaine lettuce around Christmas. I had to go to Trax Farms to find it.

You don't get good fries at home unless you have a deep fryer, frozen or not.

We do like 75% of our shopping in cranberry. I can run 25 mins there or 20 mins to McKnight. Cranberry is setup better to get around. They've grown so much in the last 18 years we've been, it will keep improving since it has the benefit of a decent commute to the city but is an actual planned modern city/town so they can grow and develop. Nothing against most other towns but they started so long ago there is no planning, its just figuring out what can work with what is available.

New ken to south of kittanning, sure, its more run down in the mill towns, but once you crossed the river you had really nothing but farm houses (non vacant, non run down, non overgrown and most importantly, none for sale - all of last weekend) then distant, new beth, hawthorn, shannondale, summerville and brookville. those are some of the NICEST curb appeal jefferson county neighborhoods, still mostly owner occupied and high levels of property care, and once again - nothing for sale. There are 2 properties entering summerville and one at the turn for Ohl that are not as well kept - via collections of stuff. But overgrown? hardly. and once again, almost nothing for sale.

In northern jefferson, clarion and forest counties we have low owner occupancy rates. as low as 30%, but we have almost a zero vacancy rate. they are now camps bought by....mostly people from pittsburgh. avg time on market up there is 5 days and the realtors have almost no inventory. My place, since I moved to pitt, is technically one of the 'camps', i just happen to be there every week. I have been up and down this route for 57 years and its easy to tell when someone is BSing us.
Even when you get up into the Great White North (the northern tier from Warren County through McKean and points east) there aren't that many vacant/abandoned properties.

Up around Smethport, I mentioned this the other day, the dairy farms my father tested milk on 60+ years ago are still in operation.

Do some of the houses maybe not meet the "standards" of an urbanista from Pittsburgh? Probably. But then again they're working farms with what that entails.

I could probably take someone to houses in the area, especially around Brookville and Summerville, but most of them have been that way for decades and the municipalities go after them one by one as finances allow (Brookville just criminally charged an absentee owner for property maintenance issues. They've been processing the property for five or six years).

Between the brockway/Dubois and hermitage exits on I-80 there were 3 tractor trailers on their sides. One was in the middle of the highway, one was headed west and the third was east a mile from the brockway exit. The truck was over the hill with the cab up in the air. No wonder there are supply chain issues. Drivers don’t know how to drive those trucks on the windy highway.

Oh good lord it is as ramshackle as they come. The country side is nice but the houses are tattered and worn. Remuddled and looks like a shoemaker did the upgrades. There is no money up there. Straub brewery is the gem. Everything else looks like what you see in the Mon valley.

If it wasn’t for the two big cities this state would be one of the poorest in the country.
