Thank an East End Progressive for the collapsed bridge.

I note that funding is being secured, has been secured. $25.4M

Now I know estimates are just that, and it is early in the game. But literally a few days ago it was just over $10, this is 2.5x

so you HAVE to ask where did the number come from and how much is for the booze and hooker fund allegheny pols are famous for having?

You guys do understand that it's PennDot who is responsible for fixing and maintaining large bridges and roads? Penndot has been being "DEFUNDED" by Harrisburg in favor of supplying free state police coverage to townships without a local police department. Urban and Suburban areas always subsidized the rural areas of PA.

$4.2 billion diverted from PennDOT road and bridge repairs to fund state police, new audit reveals

No one holds more contempt for PA residents than the PA GOP.

Bridge needed $1.5M in repairs. What did the bike lanes cost?

....the impulse to fixate on a tiny grant for bike lanes compared to billions diverted away from bridge repair is... bizarre to say at the very least. What's the saying? Pulling the wool over the sheep's eyes?

but at the same time, we can tell the truth about this.

It has been known for nigh onto 3 years that this funding was over a 6 year period. AND, only just a little over half actually went to he PSP - the author is lying, without lying.

And the author is being mighty selective in stating that of the vast revenue item in the PA budget - of which roads and bridges and PSP are in the same bucket - that the funding came from say bridges only (yet not public trans?)

The truth was politically distorted and you may have taken the bait and ripped 100 yards of line off the spool - as intended.

If you dont want the PSP funded from licenses, then change it. If municipalities are dropping police coverage, then find something they can have. There are upwards of 30 agencies that can arrest you in allegheny county. But exactly 2 in forest. and both counties share one of them.

Furthermore, not mentioned in the article is the $7.9B PA-pike tolls 'stolen' back into the state fund, rather than the pike itself. To fix that, stop voting for democrat governors and reps. the PA turnpike is a long standing joke since it is a free looting site for organized crime and the state democratic party. Every state uses PA as a model of how NOT to run a toll system.

Things cost money. And philly mostly, pitt to a lesser extent are giant sucking sounds on the state budget. A disproportionate share of the budget drop into those local govts and, well, bridges are starting to collapse.

I still have not gotten an answer why the cost of the new bridge went from $10M to over $25M in 2 days before a single firm was hired. Follow the money.

PS: penndot is responsible for fixing state roads and bridges, size be damned. This was city. As the local PA officials told you this last week, the pecking order is city, county, state, federal. The city will work up the design and hire the contractors. no one else. Look on a good map for any road and tell me if its designation is TR, LR, SR, US, or I. thats a pretty good indicator who is paying the bill.

Bridge needed $1.5M in repairs. How much to replace it? What did the bike lanes cost?

Pittsburgh budgeted $114 million for police in 2020 but actually spent $125 million. It's the bike lanes though.

The truth is the "author" was the auditor general of PA and he ended up losing all support from the Governor's office and the PA congress. Let's be honest, SEPA including Philadelphia sends a lot more tax revenue to Harrisburg than it gets back. A little dated but illustrating the picture:

It's probably even worse now than even 13 years ago given the continued decline of the the rest of the state.

This is about the only close to factual thing thing you posted. A bridge doesn't collapse like this unless many different agencies and levels of government fail.
