The Pittsburgh region’s economy continues to lag behind its pre-covid levels from 2020, when there were 64,000 more nonfarm jobs in the seven counties and 54,600 more people in the labor force, according to the February employment report released Tuesday.
...
Although labor force issues have been a national problem since the pandemic, the Pittsburgh region’s labor force is recovering at a slower rate than other similar regions, Briem said.

Sad, but not surprising.
I'm not sure how anyone can consider voting for Fetterman or Shapiro, given their ties to Wolf and the suffering his disastrous policies inflicted on the people of this state.

Oh, give it a rest. Not every topic has to be injected with obnoxious right-wing politics.

Have any of the conservative geniuses ever given thought to the obvious impact of demographic decline on the economy, as in the very real phenomenon of deaths overtaking births or a marked increase in retirements versus people entering the workforce, which is a trend that will only continue and spread around the globe?

I'm guessing not.

Sometimes economic trends just "are." They have nothing to do with policies or twisted plots from Democrats, no matter how much you want to deflect reality.

And how would you know what things are like in Pgh, given that you live in Boston and are from Philly before that?

That's really a moot point.

Pittsburgh is in a region that has long been facing an uphill demographic battle. It's no secret, and one does not have to be from there to recognize that. And I believe Pittsburgh is the "canary in the coalmine" so to speak as far as what other areas of the country (and globe) will be facing in the coming years.

When you're experiencing literally the highest natural population decline in the US among metro areas, it becomes pretty difficult to grow your workforce--does it not?

Quote:
Pittsburgh metro area loses population, leads nation in natural population decline

The Pittsburgh metropolitan area lost 13,755 residents between July 2020 and July 2021, according to U.S. Census estimates.

The biggest factor of that loss was the region’s natural decline, which is when an area experiences more deaths than births. The Pittsburgh metro area’s natural decline of 10,383 was the largest natural decline of any metro area in the United States, according to census estimates.

Bingo. Wolf handled it so poorly and shutting it down causing the second most businesses in the country to go out of business. It’s reaping what Wolf has sown.

There is no evidence to support that claim whatsoever. Please provide a link to your claim.

Lol. Just one of many articles. Living in fear has consequences.

Frank Gamrat is a conservative and speaks from a conservative think tank. His statements in the article align with what you stated. There aren’t the younger workers to replace the ones that are retiring. The people just aren’t there. It isn’t hard to understand.

Plus republicans have control of the state house and state senate. They have had control of it for years. In fact they had the trifecta and controlled the governorship in the 2010s with no change to show for it.

The GOP has just become a party of all big talk and loud noise. When it comes up to passing legislation and good policy they come up woefully short.

It’s an article from a conservative reporting baseless claim drivel and opinion. Please provide facts please.

Shutting it down caused a huge amount of folks to retire and the loss of tax revenue. More consequences of living in fear.
