Behind a paywall, but Greystar is planning to develop a 375 unit apartment building on the Southside. It will be on a former industrial section to the east of the Birmingham bridge.

I just got my way over to Home Depot and swung by Target. They tore down the Giant Eagle on Penn. Sure is a lot of land there. Wonder if they go most all residential? Retail is sort of toast. Will be interesting.

The Shady Hill Shopping Center is being fully demolished to make way for a mid-rise building about the same height as Bakery Living or EastSide Bond nearby. It will be apartments with a Market District on the first floor.

So now the East Liberty/Friendship/Shadyside area will have TWO Market Districts, TWO ALDI stores, the East End Food Co-Op, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe's while the entire North Side only has a terrible Giant Eagle and a terrible Kuhn's for 40,000 people, which is why most of my neighbors and I head out to McKnight Road for our groceries.

Rumor has it Aldi is scouting a location in Manchester/Chateau...perhaps on Western near Fulton. Also I believe Esplanade may have a grocery store component.

Thanks. Yes, there is one man in particular from Manchester who is always on NextDoor advocating for ALDI to come to Manchester. I do hope they open a location here on the North Side. As a city worker I feel "dirty" taking so many of my earned dollars out to Ross Township and spending them.

There's a reason there are no grocery stores there.

The southside/ southern hilltop neighborhoods don't have it much better. There's just a couple crappy Shop 'n Saves plus a crappy Giant Eagle and a single Aldi in the flats.

Isn't this the location where another large apartment was proposed from before the pandemic?

Yeah, but it was slightly smaller. 320-some units.
