It isnt an insurrection when the doors were held open for them. were there bad actors who needed punished, god yes and they should be to the fullest extent of the law but i feel most of the people just got caught up in the moment, around the capital and left. The ones who vandalized and wrecked havoc are they any different than the people who burned cop cars, police stations, federal buildings or tried to breach the whitehouse fences, absolutely not. Those people were called peaceful protesters.

I'm sorry, but I feel like this still doesn't place Jan. 6th in the context with what we now know about the weeks leading up to that date -- regardless of what you call it, or regardless of whether the police willingly or unwillingly (i.e., to diffuse the crowd) let folks pass through the gates.

Trump was told, repeatedly, by respected advisors, that there was no widespread election fraud that would change the results. He pursued his claims in court and was defeated.

Nevertheless, he listened to crackpot theories and followed fringe, unlawful, and unconstitutional theories, and attempted to persuade Pence to follow them as well.

He arranged for a gathering on January 6th, based on lies and the unconstitutional theory.

If Pence had followed Trump's repeated urgings, the rioters would have been unnecessary, irrelevant and/or beside the point.

Further, the rioters themselves, need not have overthrown the government, it simply may have been enough to delay the proceedings or injure or kill Pence, as some testimony has suggested the Proud Boys were prepared to do. This would have, in turn, allowed Trump and his allies more time to pursue their fraudulent alternate electors scheme.

"Remember how there was tons of footage and evidence of officers & others inside on 1/6 supporting insurrectionists, but then everyone decided it was too politically risky to investigate thoroughly so they brushed under the rug and now we still have no idea who or what is safe?" - AOC

A Trump Backer’s Downfall as the Target of a Jan. 6 Conspiracy Theory

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/13/u...-ray-epps.html

"Ray Epps became the unwitting face of an attempt by pro-Trump forces to promote the baseless idea that the F.B.I. was behind the attack on the Capitol."

https://video.twimg.com/ext_tw_video...utkng_qFdH.mp4

in the video you can see the people he's trying to instigate instantly recognize him for what he is

"Mr. Epps, 61, was not just a bystander on Jan. 6. He traveled to Washington to back Mr. Trump, was taped urging people to go to the Capitol and was there himself on the day of the assault."
