Norfolk Southern's managers and shareholders don't care.

Vinyl chloride is heavier than air, so it doesn't travel far. It can contaminate soil and water, so creeks nearby, ground water and eventually downstream in the Ohio River will be affected. Soil contamination in the immediate environment is also a guarantee. The fact that it doesn't travel far in air makes East Palestine a disaster area.

Could be the old "lets belch overnight Sunday into Monday, maybe nobody will notice the rotten eggs smell..". It usually greets one in the morning when you step outside for the first time. Gotta love that Clairton Coke Works.

Today’s winds have kicked up a plume of detectable particulate matter (PM) from the Norfolk Southern train derailment, extending well into Western PA. The article shows the range.

https://www.cleveland19.com/2023/02/...railment-site/

The Beaver Falls EPA station is the nearest one to the crash site picking up the readings.

Of course, here-in lies the rub…

<<One of the problems with the EPA’s air monitoring devices is while they measure for particulate matter, they do not tell you what’s in the air.>>

Believe we’ll be hearing more about this in days/weeks/months to come.

The wind is blowing from the SSW. The vinyl chloride on the ground is probably very stirred up by the winds today. I'd get out of the area if I lived a few miles north or northeast of the derailment.

Rain tomorrow. It will eventually all end up in the nearby streams and Ohio River.

Think I'll pass on buying corn at Rogers this year.

I am so sorry. I had beans and broccoli for lunch and washed it down with a couple of crab cakes.
