There are a ton of really good really really really expensive restaurants in California. I’ve been to a few of them. I guess you can take the girl out of Pennsylvania, but you can’t take the pizza and beer out of the Pennsylvania girl. I always left those places thinking you know I could do this at home and we wouldn’t have to put up with the snooty people. I have actually developed a hate, a passion and height of classical music and jazz music. Because that is the pretentious claptrap those people listen to.

But here’s the thing. California being California, it isn’t just the earthquakes that wipe stuff out. A number of businesses that were just “making their nut” went belly up when the pandemic hit.

Husband died not quite six months before the pandemic started, and the changes that Covid wrought were fast and irrevocable. Much like I couldn’t go back to Cranberry because that Cranberry is not the Cranberry I grew up in and where I want to be, the California I left was not the California I wanted to stay in. I didn’t just lose my husband, I really lost my home. Not fiscally, but everything that made California a wonderland we loved is gone. And has gotten so wildly expensive that you can’t afford it.
Wow. Your life sure has changed a lot. I hope you love it here and find a lot of happy people to be around. Enjoy some restaurants you find and just enjoy this area. Maybe take a little trip down to Ohiopyle and have a look around. Have a beer at Fall City Pub as they have an amazing beer selection. Venture out around here. Lots of nice places to visit and great history. Seven Springs is another very cool place that has a lot of fun things to do other than skiing. A great restaurant on the way there or back is Out of the Fire in Donegal. It is great!

Thanks for sharing your story. The pandemic sure changed a lot of places, but I learned one thing. It didn't change nearly as much in the state of Florida. They stayed more open and most all places were okay. It is amazing the difference. I should know as I split time between both places. We didn't do things right here IMHO and they didn't do it right in CA. Both states were very similar.

Enjoy!

That's sad, you're missing out on some of the greatest music in the world.

Yeah, you may find the only places here to use avocado are Mexican restaurants, sadly. I would LOVE an avocado tree. Other than that Pittsburgh is a very unique city.

Pittsburgh was a jazz hotspot back in the day with the Hill District hosting well-known acts. There continues to be a small following in the city and a local station dedicated to jazz. Classical, folk, and jazz musicians are well-respected because they can actually play their instruments unlike the other genres which only require a basic knowledge of chords.

You will love Cranberry and fit right in.

Was that a dig? By the way, I moved to Ross.

I know what I said about classical and jazz music was somewhat incendiary, but I should’ve pointed out that the people and places that play this sort of music are not breaking ground. At Christmas, you’re going to hear the hallelujah chorus. A lot. The rest of the time you’re going to hear a lot of stuff that you’ve heard on commercials. Amusingly enough not the stuff you would’ve heard on Bugs Bunny cartoons. As for jazz, if I hear Dave Brubeck take five one more time I may go postal.

Sadly I am not a fan of Florida avocados either. Good mangos, bananas, citrus, strawberries and more though.

Definitely no comparison between a Hass avocado, and a Florida one.
