Hi, I'm a stay-at-home-mom with an almost 3 year old son. I'm trying to find a mother's group/playgroup to join. There aren't alot of kids in our neighborhood (mostly teenagers and college age) and most of my friends work, so my son and I end up doing alot of activities by ourselves during the week while my husband is at work. I'd love to find a group to get together with, both for companionship for myself and my wonderful son. Any suggestions will be most appreciated. Thanks!

If I had to guess...I would say a popular place to meet a playgroup would be at Children's programs (storytimes, etc.) through your local library. Here are some I thought of off the top of my head...if you're from another part of South Hills try googling for the library if you're interested in that idea. Good luck

Mt. Lebanon Public Library
Township of Upper St. Clair Library
Peters Township Library

There are MOPs (mothers of preschoolers) groups

Peters Township has the newcommers club (you don't have to be new or a resident to join) and they have playgroups, babysitting co-op etc...

Churches have Mom's day out programs

I know there were always moms with preschoolers at the South hills mall play area that got together as an informal palygroup.

Where do you live? That might help narrow it down to groups your area.

There are a few groups on Meetup.com that have a lot of playgroups.

Modern Moms Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh Hip Mama Meetup Group

I'm a member of both groups and like them a lot. There's a small membership fee for the year for each but they have a lot of activities.

This is still quite some time away yet, but Carnegie Museum of Natural History's next annual No Big Kids Allowed Day (for ages 4–6) will be on April 27, 2009. Something to keep in mind!!
