I moved to Pittsburgh two months ago. I found a beautiful apartment in the city's charming Squirrel Hill neighborhood. I know some people have little good to say about Pittsburgh, but I have fallen in love with this place. From the Pirates baseball games -- I've been a fan since I was a little kid -- to the festivals, events, arts, people, food, scenery, rivers, greenery...my experience here is limited, but as someone new to the city, I think you'll like it here.

Thank you for this positive post! My husband wanted to move to San Jose, CA, originally, but thank goodness I got him to change his mind. All I got was negative feedback about that, and I was terrified. I have had very positive replies on this thread, and I am not one bit worried about moving to Pittsburgh. In fact, I can't wait!

You tell me and we'll both know! My husband is originally from there, and I think maybe he is a little homesick, to the point that for a while he wouldn't listen to reason.

I fought tooth and nail not to go. The economy isn't great anywhere, but California is outrageously expensive. We would never be able to make it there.

I'm so glad we are headed North instead of West!

I don't particularly like California myself, but if it's the DH's home, I don't think he was being "unreasonable" in wanting to live there. We all like what is familiar. What made you decide on Pittsburgh? Just curious.

Well, my kids and my brothers and sister all live here in East Tennessee. (My parents are both deceased.) I didn't want to move that far away from them in the event that something happened and I needed to get home. Living in CA would be so expensive, I'm afraid I couldn't get back home if the need should arise.

My DH woud get mad and yell if I wanted to talk about living anywhere else. I understand he is a city boy and doesn't like it here in the rural South. So when he realized that I wasn't going to back down about it, he said that we could live on this side of the US if he could choose the spot. He chose Pittsburgh.

I did a lot of research online and looked through many photos before agreeing. I looked up statistics such as unemployment, crime rate, cost of living, wages, etc., and realized that Pittsburgh seemed a very positive choice for the both of us.

It would certainly be better than CA if you needed to get back home to see your kids. I don't think you are being unreasonable about this. Hopefully, he will be able to adjust to the winters in Pgh.

It's my maternal instinct, I suppose. They are 21 and (almost)18, but I don't want to move to the opposite side of the country away from them. My DH hasn't lived in CA for a few years. He has moved around a lot in his younger days, but he wants to find a permanent place to settle down now. He even lived in London for 3-4 years before we met.

I can't wait to see snow again. Here in East Tennessee we used to get at least one big snow per year, but we haven't had much more than a dusting in the past few years. I don't mind snow at all, but he is so thin, he might have more trouble keeping warm than I do! I'm looking forward to seeing some pretty fall colors again. We don't have much of that anymore either. Global warming, maybe?
