That'd be 5th, not Forbes. Turn left off of 5th at the Birmingham Bridge right before you enter the Hill Distrist.

Or, cut through Schenley Park to the Boulevard of the Allies, make a left onto Parkview, another left onto Swinburn St, then right on Saline down to 2nd Ave and over the Hot Metal Bridge. It sounds more complicated than it is, trust me.

Whoops! I forgot Forbes was one-way in the other direction.

Pittsburgh traffic is a breeze compared to other cities, especially larger ones. It is actually pretty easy when you learn all the short cuts. You can bypass Carson St. traffic by taking the side streets that parallel it on both sides.

If you are heading East out of the city from Oakland and want to get on the Parkway, go through Schenley park and get on the Parkway at Greenfield.

Oh, and to the poster asking how to get to the South Side from Oakland, go down Bates and make a left at the light under the parkway and then hang a right onto the hot metal bridge. If you want to go to the other end of the South Side, hang a right at this light and go down to the 10th street bridge.

Keep the schenley park secret quiet! That is all I need, is the suburbinites to flock off of the parkway, and start backing up Panther hollow towards S. Hill.

Suburbinites, don't go through Schenley park. It is dangerous. Crack heads shot at you, atleast 5 car jackings in one day, and all that city trash causes road blocks. Just stay on the parkway.

... and you'll get to enjoy that nice parkway entrance ramp with the stop sign at the end. The heavy merge before the tunnel entrance is certainly more of a challenge when you have to do it from a complete stop, cutting across exiting traffic.

... but be warned that Bates Street often backs up all the way to the Blvd of the Allies due to congestion of people trying to access the parkway. At peak times, I go on Parkview Ave/Swinburne St./2nd Ave and make a left on Hot Metal to avoid the parkway traffic on Bates.

The real problem with Pittsburgh traffic is the congestion that occurs due to poor/outdated road design/infrastructure. The system is fragile --- it doesn't take much to generate congestion and backups around here.

Wow - two things; one someone went to Pittsburgh for a Vacation, and two they complained about the traffic there. Must be from Ohio or maybe an Amish village.

If you think Pittsburgh has too much traffic, you have seen NOTHING.

Though I'm a believer that Pittsburgh traffic isn't bad, there are bottleneck areas. But the biggest problem with Pittsburgh's infrastructure is the topography itself. I mean, who in the heck was crazy enough to settle a city in the middle of a mountain range to begin with?
