Stock broker is a fancy term for sales person that sells financial products. So is it a good career move? That probably depends on you, some sales people make millions, others are barely surviving.

There are also traders... these are people who invest hundreds of millions... you may need a few years experience to get that job.

What is it about stock brokering that entices you? If you are interested in the whole thing of making money and making money for people, you might want to look into becoming a CFP -- Certified Financial Planner. In Pittsburgh, that might not be a bad thing.

People often are so stymied by the array of money making vehicles that is freezes them into doing nothing. And some people when they reach a certain level of investments feel they need a more professional on it.

As a CFP, you could help wealth build for a small flat fee smaller portfolios and manage larger portfolios for a larger flat fee or a percentage. Or you could sell products for a commission.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc.

On that note --there is no longer a stock exchange in Pittsburgh (I don't think) where you can stand and yell and toss pieces of paper in the air like they do in the New York Stock Exchange.
