That's correct; so many times I read where people have signed a lease or bought property and then ask questions after the fact. When we were looking for a new home, we drove the neighborhoods at all times of the day and night.

Stanton Hts. and Lawrenceville have gone down hill over the years. Stanton Hts. is better I think if you get in the more residential section away from Garfield, on the eastern side of Stanton Ave. At the bottom of Stanton Ave., either direction, is good bus service and there's bus stops on Stanton itself.

There has always been affordable places to live in Squirrel Hill. Somebody posted they were renting there for $525 (maybe plus electric) for a one or two BR. Most likely that's in a converted house but that's what most apts. are in the city. They may look older on the outside but that doesn't mean they're rundown inside. I don't know of any areas there to avoid and I think it's a lot safer than Shadyside and with less common crime.
