Wow, I must be the Grinch because I never even considered tipping the mailman, garbage man, newspaper carrier, etc.

My job keeps me traveling, so I have a different set of people to tip:

I tip the hotel housekeeper at least $5 each time for cleaning the room (usually twice a week).
I tipped the hotel maintenance guy $10 yesterday after he fixed a few items.

I am a generous tipper. When I go out and grab something to eat, its usually 20% if the service is good enough not to completely **** me off. Wait staff get paid a pittance because tips are assumed.

I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would tip a mailman. Seriously? There are people that tip mailmen?

Mailmen, garbage men - these guys are professionals, and draw a salary with a benefits package on the level of any federal / city government job.

Just boggles the mind.

I agree! When I eat out or go to the salon, I tip 20 maybe even 25% if the food Salon service was outstanding. I just called the USPS and they said it is is not legal to tip a mail man in these United States.

Our mailman goes above and beyond for us... so I like to tip him. My prerogative! If the rest of you don't, so what? Mine deserves something extra.

And BMSF... again, you can read what I posted directly from the USPS website. Deny all you want, but it is there in black and white. NOT illegal at all!
I don't know why you repeatedly insist it is....

PeterRabbit... rep point from me!

My garbage hauler is not... they are a local company.
And when they haul off a heavy armoire or the like (without an extra fee), I tip them. Again, I choose to do so.

I don't see why you object to how I spend my money....

You can afford a nanny, handyman, maid and gardener... and you don't value them enough for a Christmas bonus??? wow....

They get paid very well and its not the gift its the thought and I am a fond believer in re gifting items people will use much better then myself and my family. I was given a zebra print cashmere designer cardigan and my nanny loved it and wears it more then I would.......and it was worth over 100 bucks.......and there is no law when hiring employees legally that we need to give them a holiday bonus in the form of US Currency......only 1 celebrates Christmas anyways. ...What you give your employees is your choice and this year many Fortune 500 companies are giving coal............so go figure........
