I just returned from Ohio and heard that my mother's man friend's grand-daughter is missing. The grand-daughter lives in Pittsburgh. Does my mom's friend need to travel to Pittsburgh to file a missing person report with the local police department? She has been missing for several months. In addition, she went missing in Mexico when she was visiting the country.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Instead of asking the police you decided it was better to post here and ask us?

Since she went missing in Mexico you have to get in touch with the federal government, just contact the nearest FBI office.

But yeah....what the above poster said.

It's scary hearing people missing in Mexico, it's often referred to these days as the most dangerous place in the world. I read where murders where over 1700 in the Tijuana area.

Thanks for the FBI suggestion. I do not have any specific information, and am just looking for the process to help this 79 year old man. He does not have internet access, and thinks he must travel from northeast Ohio to Pittsburgh to file a missing person report. He does not want to go alone and has not found someone to go with him. Unfortunately, I just heard the story on Dec. 26 when I visited Ohio.

If he really cares about his granddaughter, thats not a long drive at all .. Then again, he is 79.

best of luck to the both of you, I know the holidays intensify any sad emotions.. Just tell him to call, or call for him, and they'll answer your question. You can't be afraid to do such mundane things when a missing person is involved.

In addition to the FBI report et al, I would also recommend you contact the US Consulate closest to the city. I don't know if there's a local state office or if you'd have to reach them in Mexico City, but the Consul can pull some strings to help make the Federales work a little harder on certain cases.... I'm just sayin'......
