Hi Everyone! We are planning on moving to the Bethel, Upper St. Clair, or Mt. Lebannon area this summer from Florida. My husband was in the construction business and because of how dead things here are we are going to have to start our lives over somewhere else. I am orignially from Bethel and most of my family is there. We will have to rent for a number of years, but I have not seen a lot of rental properties available. Is there somewhere specific I can look for rental homes?

My next question is in three townships listed above are there any neighborhoods I should avoid? We have two children and I want to live in a decent neighborhood. I am not talking about living in an expensive neighborhood, just some place where most of the kids are good kids and families are involved. In Florida even in the nicest cities there are some neighborhoods you just don't want to live in. Just wanted to know which ones I should avoid up there.

Thanks everyone!!

I lived in Bethel Park when I first moved up here from FL. There is absolutely nothing to fear in any of those 3 suburbs you mentioned, all are very safe, and are good for families. The difference between those areas and a FL city is like night and day. You have nothing to worry about.

I live in USC and the previous poster is correct.

I saw your post about snow removal, I haven't had an issue with driving in USC in the 11 years I have lived here. They are very good about clearing the roads.

Is it possible to live in a truck camper in Bethel. The camper is a Arctic Fox which can handle -40 or so. Here is my dilemma. I would need to bring my F-350 because of the payment. I can't afford to leave it in Florida, and would like to purchase a truck camper to live out of. Between the truck and the camper, the price would be about a $1,000 monthly. You see, if I rent a one bedroom in Bethel it will cost me around $800 to $1000 plus my truck payment I wouldn't have enough to sent the wife for mortgage back home doing the math with this new job which i really look forward to getting.

In all seriousness, I don't know where you would find a lot to park/live out of a vehicle like that.

If I'm reading this correctly, are you thinking it will cost you $800-$1000 a month to rent a one-bedroom apt in Bethel Park? You can do MUCH better than that, the one-bedroom I rented was only $510/month. There's plenty of apts around the area under $600.

Mugatu thanks, What would be your estimate you would have paid for rent and total utilities? $510 not bad for rent. Was this a studio apartment or what?

I had an 800 square foot 1 bedroom apt. I had electric heat, so during winter the bill was about $60-70, and about $30 in the summer. Water, sewer and trash was included in the rent. So my rent + utilities never exceeded $600.

We lived in our RV the first month we were here. There are campgrounds around--we stayed at a place in Tarentum which was only about a 30-40 minute drive to the city. There are actually people that live in there year around--of course most have $100,000 RV’s. It is doable but a bit rough.
We only had a 24 footer but it worked while we were looking for something permanent. It was winter and we had quite the time keeping our pipes from freezing. It is a fun story to tell but not one I would want to live through again.
Not sure if the picture will attach but this is one that we just laugh at now. The lovely pink insulation saved our pipes.
