I'm currently in college in Pittsburgh, but will be starting work in Cranberry after graduation in May. I'm originally from out of state and don't have a car, so I really only know the areas around Oakland and don't know where to start.

I'm looking for a decent place to live less than 25 minutes from work. Unlike the other poster on here working at Westinghouse, I rarely go to bars/nightlife and would rather have the shorter commute than a hip neighborhood. What towns/neighborhoods should I be looking for?

After 4 years of student housing, I'm looking for something like a one bedroom with a newish/decent sized-kitchen and would love a place with laundry in-suite (no more quarters would be nice, but most places in Pittsburgh are older and have shared machines). This makes me sound like a house-mom but I like to entertain and cook. It'd also be great if I lived near other youngish people, but I don't know where to look for that.

My tentative budget is <$1000/mo. (including utilities) as I want to save up and buy a place eventually. Is this realistic? What areas should I be looking in?

Thanks in advance for the help

Working in Cranberry is going to be tough with out a car - I would live somewhere in Central N.side you have both the 500 and 54C to Oakland and certain 12A's will take you to Cranberry (Must coordinate with the schedule though).

I was planning on buying a car when I graduate, I just don't have one now. Sorry for making that unclear!

There is a lot of new looking apartments in Wexford. That is about 10 minutes south of Cranberry. I wouldn't really call it a town or neighborhood though.

Why not look in Cranberry. Other choices would be Wexford, McCandless or Ross.
There are a lot of rentals in Ross Park - McKnight Rd area.

If not living near Pgh is what you're looking for, try these 3 areas near the Westinghouse campus: Evans City, Harmony, and Mars. All three have a semi-urban feel with a small business district. A lot of the homes have been converted to rentals along with conventional apartment buildings. Even Zelienople is not that far from Cranberry and is a very up and coming area in Butler county.
