im too young to have attended the clubs in the 80s. In the early 90s I went to the under 21 Cotton Club/ Illusions/Former Heaven. The Belle Air East in the former East Hills Shopping Center and Kongs in Monroeville. I say Jay Z in concert for my 21st birthday at Kongs.

I remember seeing The Time at Kongs. I remember going to pick up tickets the day of the show, and walking in when they were rehearsing. I got to listen to a few songs during the rehearsal. I remember they had this elaborate musical buildup in the beginning, with Morris Day's back to the crowd, his arms raising as the music built, and then the power cut out. They tried again, same thing. Then they got offstage. I saw upstairs in a room people arguing for a while. After 10 minutes or so they came back on, and the show went off without a hitch. One of the best live shows I've seen...amazingly tight band, even tho Jimmy and Terry weren't there for that one but Monte, Jellybean, Jesse, Jerome and Morris were.

I'm curious about the club on McKnight road also. I used to know a bartender his name is Dave. He was from Avalon, pa. Just wanted to say hi to him.

Kangeroo's, perhaps?

Across the street from Brother Dan and Sister Ann's church on McKnight?

They were open at least through 1995, I don't know if it was open in the 80's.

Kangaroos wasn't there in the 80's.

There was a Hu Ke Lau restaurant across from Red Lobster on McKnight that closed and became a club. At least 3 different name changes while it was there.

It's a great place to start the night before heading out to Confetti's in the parkway west.

If you didn't end up picking up a cute secretary in a light brown suede leather mini skirt from Monroeville who worked at downtown One Mellon Center bank and was too drunk to drive home, that is.
