Next time, provide the location so we can help you know if it's a safe neighborhood.

I can't find the first one in the real estate listings.

The second one is in South Side whihc is a safe enough neighborhood by city standards. It looks like it's on the southside slopes so you'll have some serious uphill walking. Keep in mind, that's not a suburban neighborhood. It's a city neighborhood. It's literally right across the river from downtown.

btw, I'm amazed to see that there are downtown condos for only 50k.

I know they're not condos. I just noticed condos while I was searching for the listing of the picture.

I said almost all suburban neighborhoods are safe. Not everything listed in that price range is in the suburbs.

Many of them were within the city limits. For instance, the one in southside is within the city limits---it's not a suburban house. South Side is an okay area though.

But not everything that came up in the real estate search is in a safe area though. Not by a long shot.

You will have to tour me of the area when I come to Pittsburgh to visit those suburbs. You seem very knowlegable about the area, im sure you can give me options in person. You live in a location of very reasonably priced houses and being a few miles from shopping and entertainment, theres alot to do. Crime is a big issue so I dont know if ill live there or Oil city.

I thought the same thing!

Curious though, NAH, if Oil City is your idea of perfection, why look farther? It's a small city, nestled at the foothills of the mountains, with the Allegheny River cutting it in two.... really rather pretty and historic... and the houses are cheap.

IMO the 2 personalities of Pgh are defined by the citys 2 seasons. when its cold out and snowy, people are mean, agressive and dirty. in the summer, its a totally different scene. people are nice. Jekyle and Hyde if you ask me.

Im in Pittsburgh tomorrow to look at property - to move from SOUTH FLORIDA - yes thats right! And yes, Im well aware that there will be some snow tomorrow. Ive been to PGH and I like it. It takes outsiders to appreciate this beautiful city. I am an urban planner and have been to many great cities in North America and Europe. Pittsburgh compares very well, and its CHEAP! 40% lower cost of living than where I live now - in characterless, vapid, expensive south florida. BTW, we are having the worst drought here since 1888, and all the pretty palm trees and grass lawns are drying up and dying. Its all matter of perspective, people.
