Do you have one of these phone books? If so, perhaps you can look something up for me. I'd like to have the address of Turtle Creek Auto Wrecking. I don't believe it's there anymore, but I have a photo of my father outside it in 1961, and someday I'd like to go there and have my photo taken at the site. I'm hoping the metal criss-cross patterned bridge he's standing in front of is still there... Thanks for any help you can offer!

It's unlikely someone will have a phone book, but maybe if you post the picture here someone might recongize the building and give you the address.

Sometimes libraries archive old phone books.. check your local library, and if they don't they might know where that phone book is archived...

No, that's not it. But thanks much for trying!

I have the photo, and the minute I scan it I will post it here so you can see. It seems like more of a footbridge -- it comes up only waist-high or so.

Yes, Carnegie Libraries may have the 1960 directories on microfiche. I've done some research in Boston using old directories with much success. If you don't live in the area, you might try to phone the research desk and make an inquiry about availability.

Sounds like a project worth pursuing!

From a 2001 Post-Gazette article:

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, in its plans to build the final phases of the Mon-Fayette Expressway, has three options for how the roadway will run through Turtle Creek. All of them have one thing in common: They will cut through the center of the borough.

Turtle Creek has already been cut in half once. In 1968 the Tri-Boro Expressway opened after 320 buildings were demolished in Turtle Creek for the project...

Possibly the post office could help you or this old family owned car dealership in nearby Pitcairn. The have a web site so you could probably write to them or call for details about if the location is still there.
