I am happy for you living in other cities.

In my experiences with Pittsburghers they only know pittsburgh. Like I could go to Giant eagles and ask them if they have jamaican curry seasoning or goya juice and they will look at me like I'm from jupiter. I'v just experienced so much ignorance in PGH when it comes to different peoples cultures. Maybe its because PGH only has a few different selection of races and ethnicities but when I lived in NY you had everybody. Maybe I'm spoiled from other cities I've lived in...maybe.
Pittsburgh is a 20th century city, it's NOT a 21st century city.

And ya, you were spoiled by living in other cities. A lot of Pittsburgh'ers will critize your comments, but some of them NEVER lived elsewhere to compare it to.

They're ignorant, plain and simple. Ignorant meaning, lack of knowledge. Not an insult to them, they just don't really know how different it can be elsewhere.

An exaggeration, but I agree that Denver has the worst snow removal system (?) that I have ever experienced. Pittsburgh's is a close second, however.

Things I dislike (not very many, incidentally):

1. When I tell people I moved here from Michigan, they ask me "WHY?!" with huge, puzzled eyes. Then I explain to them that I visited the city once and fell in love with it. They are mostly silent after that...

2. When I tell someone I am going downtown just for fun, to eat, or shop, etc., usually I am answered with "why go downtown?" Most people in this town rarely leave their neighborhood.

After living in Erie most of my life, I laugh at anyone who complains about snow removal in Pittsburgh. I have to drive from the east side of the city to the Bethel Park/USC area for work and have never been disappointed at how snow has been dealt with in this area.

Really? After living in cities that shut down when they get an inch of snow, I've been very impressed at how fast the snow gets cleared here. Honestly, when was the last time you were here in the winter?

A few years ago. My mom and I had an appointment to look at a nursing home for my dad, and there was this big ice storm. One main road was cleared to the local high school, after that it was untouched.

Was this in the city of Pittsburgh? Or out in Beaver county somewhere? I can't vouch for the 'burbs.

Thanks for pointing out regional differences in supermarkets, so I didn't have to directly respond to Mr. Oh-so-worldly himself. BTW, I was at Giant Eagle the other day and almost half an aisle was dedicated to Goya products.
